Deze brochure onderzoekt het herstel van grijze duinen in Nederland door kleinschalige verstuiving. Grijze duinen, ook wel duingraslanden genoemd, zijn een belangrijk en kwetsbaar habitattype langs de kust. Ze worden bedreigd door verzuring, stikstofdepositie en afname van natuurlijke dynamiek, zoals verstuiving, wat leidt tot vergrassing en verlies van biodiversiteit. Kleinschalige verstuiving brengt een diversiteit aan vegetatie, microklimaten en bodemgesteldheden terug, wat gunstig is voor zeldzame planten en dieren. De brochure behandelt onderzoek naar de effecten van verstuiving op bodem, vegetatie en fauna en biedt inzichten voor een effectief beheer van grijze duinen.

Small scale wind erosion for the benefit of coastal dune grasslands – summary
This brochure examines the restoration of grey dunes in the Netherlands through small-scale shifting. Gray dunes, also called dune grasslands, are an important and vulnerable habitat type along the coast. They are threatened by acidification, nitrogen deposition and decline in natural dynamics, such as shifting, leading to grassing and loss of biodiversity. Small-scale shifting brings back diversity of vegetation, microclimates and soil conditions, benefiting rare plants and animals. The research aimed to identify the most important factors responsible for small-scale aeolian dynamics in coastal sand dunes and factors that affect their sustainability. The effects on soil, vegetation and fauna were also studied. The results have been translated into recommendations about where, how much, what and when small-scale wind dynamics can contribute to the management and conservation of the grey dunes.
